Rotimi Amaechi Triumph over Nyeson Wike

The former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, who is now the Honorable Minister of Transportation, has Triumphed over his enemy the incumbent Governor of Rivers State, Nyeson Wike.

After series of battles dating back to when Amaechi was still the Governor and Wike was a minister, now the table has turned around and Wike is the Governor while Amaechi is now a Minister. So far, Amaechi seemed to be winning, Since Wike had been sacked by the Election Tribunal, even though we have to wait for the appeal or a rerun of the election.

The battle isn't over yet and it may not end soon unless Wike seizes to be Governor, then in that case it would be "game over" in favour of Amaechi.

Meanwhile Amaechi has to deliver on APC campaign promises and time is running fast. He will have to supervise, organize and control several parastatals and agencies, all of which employ over 20% of nigerian civil servants.

Here are the list of agencies and parastatals under Amaechi:

1. Nigerian Port Authority (NPA)
2. Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency,
NIMASA
3 . National Clearing and Forwarding Agency (NCFA)
4. Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC)
5. Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA)
6. Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC)
7 Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT)
Aviation
1. Federal Airport Authority Of Nigerian (FAAN)
2. Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)
3. Nigeria Air Space Management Agency(NASMA)
4. Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB)
5. Nigerian College Of Aviation And Technology (NCAT)
6. Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NMA)
Land Transportation
1. Nigeria Railway Corporation
2. All Federal Roads In Nigeria ( Including but not limited to
Construction, Maintenance And Supervision)

Amaechi while speaking to newsmen, earlier today,  promised to complete all ongoing rail projects and extend rail lines to all parts of the country.

BlackBerry Priv, 1st Android BlackBerry Phone

BlackBerry Priv, the first Android phone to be made by BlackBerry is launched today in UK. Its a high end smartphone, comes with BlackBerry keyboard, and BlackBerry security and softwares.

The phone comes with a 5.4 inch curved screen like the one on Samsung S6 edge, stock Android 5.1.1 bundle with BlackBerry softwares and customizations. It also features 18 MP dual-flash camera with Schneider-Kreuznach optics, equivalent to Carl Zeiss. The Priv weighs 192g with a Qwerty keyboard and a 3410 mAH battery, quite thin-9.4mm.

BlackBerry CEO, John Chen, had promised four smartphones this 2015, and this is just the first. Blackberry is known for security and the name "Priv" stands for privacy. Blackberry promises to release monthly software updates for its Priv phone over the air (OTA). This will help keep its smartphone free of vulnerabilities before they enter public domain.

BlackBerry had described the Priv,
“PRIV has the authentic BlackBerry keyboard, legendary security, streamlined communications and productivity, combined with the wide world of Google Play store apps. It has been engineered with the world's finest technology, and
packaged in an ultra-thin, ergonomically perfect device with a keyboard hidden by SmartSlide technology.”

Finally, for those who are BlackBerry fans, and are accustomed to the BlackBerry keyboard, BlackBerry hub on Bb10, and other BlackBerry features - most of which have made their way to the Priv, this is a powerful upgrade as the best of BlackBerry is combined with the much desired softwares - which had been BlackBerry's greatest limitation in the past, by providing Google Play Store and GAPS- Google Apps.

Are you a BlackBerry fan? Tell us what you think about this in the comments.

Self-Driving cars the future or not

Following the millions of deaths recorded yearly due to road accidents, almost all car manufacturers are already testing their version of Self-Driving cars. But how well humans adapt to this new technology will depend on the trust they have on computers. How well will these self-driving cars perform alongside traditional cars?

The Tesla Model S and X’s automatic steering doesn’t just excel at eliminating the monotonous, at times frustrating, elements of highway driving, but also performs as a great failsafe, much like an airplane’s autopilot. If a car can be made that drives better than average human, it would make the world a safer place - even if a lot of people don't trust them.

Everyone who uses a computer has seen their computer freeze or crash or witnessed an automatic restart of the computer, and this creates some level of distrust regardless of how useful computer had been to humans. Understandably, no one would want his life risked over a software bug. After all, the self-driving cars would be made by imperfect humans.

The Docklands Light Railway, London’s autonomous railway system made in the 1980s, has only had two accidents in 10 years of use.  However, it runs only in a straight line, and still has an attendant to watch the train, and apply emergency brakes were necessary.

It's hard to completely give up control to a self-driving car, even if these cars are controlled by a "perfect computer". People are accustomed to having someone to talk to will riding. And in the case of an accident, people also want to have someone to blame for it. Trusting a human would not make us distrust the vehicle itself, but in the case of a self-driving car, the whole brand of the accident car may be distrusted.

At the end its going to be a fierce battle. People love to drive; people love being in control; people make mistakes, Computers dont, but they are made by humans. Self-driving cars may just be the future, but there is a lot to be done to get it perfect.

Tell us what you think, would you sleep if you were in a self-driven car?

Super Dog saves new born baby

A story of a Stray Dog who picked a newly born and abandoned baby and was wandering in search of the mother went viral in Social media in Arab.

It happened at a place called Kharbika, Oman. A young man who was riding a bike in the early hours of the morning, saw a Dog carrying something that looks like a dead child in its mouth with some traces of blood. He quickly raised alarm and people gathered to rescue the baby.

They thought the dog must have killed the baby to eat it. And they went closer to challenge the dog only to realize the dog was willing to give the baby away to a human as if it was sent to deliver it.

The child was rushed to the hospital, and was transferred to the emergency room, after series of tests the doctors confirmed the child was unharmed.

The Police in Oman had opened an investigation into the case to unravel the mystery of the baby. They checked all the hospital wards to ensure it wasn't taken away from the hospital, but no baby was found missing.

However, some witnesses in the hospital had revealed to the police about a pregnant girl who refused treatment from the hospital and fled away. And they suspect she may have had the baby and threw her away, and was miraculously found by the Angelic Dog.

Incredible story! What a dog...

USB OTG: Meaning and Uses of USB OTG

What is USB OTG?

USB OTG is a short for USB On The Go and its a new technology that allows smart devices to communicate with one another. So instead of connecting to a computer to transfer files, devices can connect to each other and exchange files; instead of using your modem to browse on computer you can connect the modem directly to your smartphone and browse; instead of connecting to your computer to send documents to your printer, you can connect your smartphone directly to your printer and print your documents and so on.

OTG can do much more than that. Once you enable your device to act as a USB host, it serves as the master and, you can connect several devices to it and control their use just like it where a PC. you can connect to printers, cameras, keyboards, game pads, flash drives, hard disks, mouse etc.

How to use OTG on Smartphone or Tablet?

If you device supports OTG, you will need to buy an OTG cable to be able to use the feature on your device. An OTG cable is readily available in popular online stores and local electronic or smartphone shops. A file manager may be required to use it with a usb flash drive or usb hard disk drive.

Which devices support USB OTG on Android?

The Android OS has supported USB OTG since Android version 3.1. However, most smartphone manufacturers are only recently implementing the technology in their smartphones. Most Android phones with Android version 4.3 and above will likely have support for USB OTG. These supported devices include but not limited to

  • Samsung Galaxy S2, S3, S4, Note 1, Note 2, Note 3
  • Sony Xperia Z, ZL, Z1 etc
  • LG Optimus G, G2

MTN steals from subscribers to pay 1 trillion naira fine

You may recall two weeks ago, the Nigerian  Communications Commission NCC, slammed Telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria a fine of 1.4 trillion Naira. The fine was handed down for keeping over 5.1m unregistered SIMS of its subscribers, even after series of warnings by NCC to disable unregistered lines. NCC has further given MTN a deadline of November 16th to pay up or face the consequences. MTN had since then resorted to doubling call rates and unwarranted deductions from subscribers credit.

MTN had in the past been criticized for creating unhealthy competitions among Telecommunications companies in the country, spamming its subscribers with annoying promotions, providing poor customer support and charging high data rates from call credit even with active data plans among others. Many Nigerians had believed that NCC officials were corrupt to have allowed MTN rule with such level of impunity, until the news of the fine was told.

Since the fine was handed down, MTN call rates had doubled across board, and there are frequent credit deductions from subscribers, supposedly in a bid to raise money to pay their fine, since their plea to reduce the fine had ended on deaf ears. I have personally avoided MTN since i noticed the trend and am sure my readers will agree its a first aid to this situation.

Police Officer Dispersed a Group of Teenagers Fighting with a Dance

Police Officer dispersed a group of teenagers fighting with a Dance

A US Police Officer has dispersed a group of teenagers who were fighting by challenging one of them to a dance (the cop is quite a good dancer). The teenager, Adole Liyah who danced with the police officer posted the video on facebook and it has gone viral.

I wish we can have more Police Officers worldwide to possess such a fun attitude of resolving situations. Am sure you can agree with me the world would be a better place if we can resolve such situations in such a manner.

11 ways to make money online in Nigeria

11 ways to make money online in Nigeria

1.             Domain Site Flipping

One of the quickest ways to make money online is by buying a product for a low price and selling it for a much higher price.  It makes it even better when you don’t need to collect or ship a product.
This involves purchasing of unique domains which you believe will be on demand in future. For example, some few months ago Google announced a new name for its group of companies called Alphabet and imagine if you already owned the domain alphabet.com, they would be willing to buy and you would make a fortune selling it to them. There are quite a lot of other companies who acquired domains from people just for the name of the domain. You could also place your offer on some websites and meet lots of potential buyers there are websites. You can register many websites and list it there and if you found who is interested in buying then you are good to go. There are sites like Namejet, that lets you bid for a domain on auction. Flippa.com also lets you buy and sell domains and it’s the most popular site for flipping of sites.

2. YouTube Partner
You may have seen Ads popping up when you are about watching a youtube video, those ads are an extension of Google’s Advertising platform, Adsense, and it helps to monetize video uploads on youtube.
Just like any Adsense Programme, you are required to upload quality and unique videos and gain some audience then apply to be approved by Adsense. Earnings are between $1- 4$ per a thousand views, and if you can gain a lot of audience, you would be making a lot of money monthly.

3. Freelance Writing
This is a great way to make money online for those who have passion for writing. If you are not a passionate writer and don’t love writing, definitely you will not make much from writing. Before you decide on writing, there are certain questions you would need to ask yourself; are you a patient person? Do you have the discipline? I will address all of these in another post. If you can afford a lot of patience, you can find a number of websites who pay writers for writing on a particular subject and if you can write quality articles then you will smile your way to the bank. Some of the common websites that pay for a write up are:

·         TopTenz: This websites accepts quality articles with bullet points with at least 1,500 words and they pay $50 for each accepted article.

·         IWriter: They pay 15$ per one accepted article and you can write fewer words of article. Their writer review process is faster and  much easier.

·         International Living: They focus more on experiences of different countries and they accept articles discussing the experiences you had in the countries you have visited. They pay $75 for any article they accept.

·         Listverse: It works like this: You write your list (1,500 words/10 items minimum), you send to them, they reply and say “Great—we’ll publish it” and send you $100  or they reply and say “Sorry—it isn’t the sort of thing our readers will love—give it another shot.” This isn’t recommended for Nigerians unless you can accept their payment methods.
4. Affiliate Marketing
It’s a type of performance-based marketing, where a company or business pays a marketer or affiliate for bringing a customer. The amount paid varies but it’s usually a percentage of the promoted item. You can either contact the company personally or deal with them through a platform. Using a platform means more offers from different companies to choose from but getting a direct relationship means you will get not have to pay any commission to a platform. Cj.com is a popular platform. some direct contacts are: Konga, Jumia, Dealdey and Kaymu. I personally prefer Konga, they are the most reliable as far as I know.

The old fashioned way of making money online in Nigeria through the means of publishing an E book and selling directly to people. You will create a website where you will publish the adverts of an e-book and success stories of those who have bought and apply what is said in the e-book. You mention your account numbers and reference numbers and when you get paid, you send the e-book to their email in PDF format.
5. Sell a product or offer a service
This is closely related to the first point I mentioned above. You can hardly make money online if you do not have a product or service that someone, somewhere is willing to pay for. So, create a new product and take it online. How about your services? That too can be unbundled and offered cheaply online. For instance,  it may be wise as a Lawyer  to break down the services you offer and place on your  website so as to attract Small and Medium Businesses that usually regard legal services as something only big companies can afford. One of the key points with making money online is to do all within your reach to price your service as competitive as possible with the purpose of making it reasonably priced and accessible to as much potential clients as possible.

6. E-commerce websites
Another way of making money online today is through e-commerce websites, all of which sell goods to people online and deliver to their door step. You will be required to create an E-commerce shopping portal and then acquire a genuine payment system, offer products and make provisions of delivery of the products to your customers. Examples of online shopping businesses in Nigeria are:
1.       Perfume House: Sells Perfumes and fragrances
2.       Jumia: Sells stuffs like phones, groceries, sports fitness, car accessories.
3.       KaymuSells stuffs like watches, clothings, household assesories
4.       KongaSells stuffs like phones, groceries, sports fitness, car accessories.
5.       Addiba: General products
6.       Watch Locker: Sells Wrist watches
7.       SmartBuy: Sells Electronics
8.       Domestico: Sells Furniture.

7. Blogging
Blogging is one of the most popular ways of making money working online in Nigeria. There are different strategies in blogging and different ways of monetizing your blog. It is quite a time consuming business and there are lots of techniques people have used to own a successful blog, its called SEO(Search Engine Optimisation), but SEO isn’t something you should worry yourself about as a beginner. Just concentrate on producing quality content for a large audience and you are on the right track.
The Steps involved in becoming a Successful Blogger are:
·         Choose a topic (niche) you are passionate about
·         Acquire an in-depth knowledge of your niche.
·         Learn to communicate enthusiastically.
·         Build relationships with other bloggers

8. Online trade

9. Online sports betting
This has been seen by most people as just a gambling but lately, people have used to this platform to make money online in Nigeria. Though in this segment, you are bound to loose or to win but you can try out to see for yourself. Some of the online betting websites in Nigeria are:

·         1960bet.com
·         bet9ja.com
·         merrbet.com
·         Naijabet.com

10. Create App
This is the most interesting new trend of how to make money online. There different kinds of apps and different platforms you can target. The common apps are web apps, Android apps, IOS apps, windows desktop apps, windows phone apps and Blackberry apps. And for which ever platform you choose, you can make games, utility, productivity, news, sports and other categories of apps.
Monetisation of apps is either by defining an upfront prize tag on the app, by integrating in-app purchases or by integration of ads from an ad network. Some of the ad networks are admob, startapp, iad, millennial media, mopub etc.

11. Gigs on Fiverr
Fiverr is now the world’s largest marketplace for people to make money selling small services (known as ‘gigs’).
What you offer could be absolutely anything, from writing and marketing, coachingselling designs and  to dance, voiceovers and short video clips for people all around the world!
The default price is $5 (hence Fiverr..), but you can earn more by adding extra services to gigs for more money. Whilst it might not seem like much, it can quickly add up and there are plenty of examples of people making a really good living from the site. The key is to get a system in place which minimises the time spent on each gig.
But there is another way to make money even more from Fiverr for doing much less work. How? By simply reselling Fiverr gigs elsewhere. For example, find a decent web designer then reply to jobs on local classifieds. A $5 spend can easily become $50+, and it’s repeatable!

Profitability of mobile App Development

In today's world, the mobile phone has become the most popular means of communication. Its use isn't only limited to making calls or sending text messages or emails, but browsing the web, sharing files, communicating with other electronic devices and even advanced computing. In fact, everyone had abandoned their PCs for smartphones whose capabilities has grown beyond bounds and only limited to our imaginations. But these capabilities can only be explored with the help of mobile applications or software, whose numbers have grown into millions in the most popular app stores (Google Play Store, Apple Store, Windows Store, etc). These mobile applications have become a source of revenue to the app stores in which they reside and the app developers. In the past few years, developers for different platforms have made good source of livelihood from making mobile applications from Games to mobile versions of web apps, to utility and productivity apps with varying functions and applications. The purpose of this article is to discuss the profitability of being a software developer in 2015.

As a software developer, I have interacted with a number of other software developers, many of whom have been coding for some few years and for Android, IOS and Blackberry platforms. And whether app developers can make a living from a platform depends on the following factors:
  1. The Number of Users of the Platform-The more the users the better the money an app developer can make from the platform, its that simple. So that's a big question you want to ask before deciding to code for a platform.
  2. Number of App Developers- The number of App developers currently coding for the platform is inversely proportional (pure maths) to how much profitable coding for the platform will be.
  3. Number of Apps in the Default App Store- The more Apps in the store of the platform, new apps will not be visible and may never even be seen by the potential consumers, and therefore, less profitable for the App developer.
  4. Ease of Rapid App Development- The easier it is to make apps in the platform the more the developers will get attracted to the platform and this produces a complex effect. On one hand it makes it easy to build apps and so developers can begin monetising their apps in no time, on the other it increases the number of developers and in turn increasing the number of apps in the store, and we all know where this is getting to.
The above are the 4 most important factors, however there are other factors which will affect any of the above directly and therefore need not be mentioned.

IOS is still the clear leader in mobile application profitability, since it has the balance of all of the above factors and plus it is used only in high end smartphones where the users have enough money to buy apps and hence make money for their developers.

Android is the second in command here, since it is easy to code cause its open source and there are wide numbers of developer resources and community of coders to help make app development less of a pain. It however has too many app developers and too many apps in Play Store in the year 2015.

Windows is the third place here. Even though it has a good balance in users and app developers, its not as easy to code like Android and IOS, but it could likely get to second place if Microsoft works harder in supporting developers. However, there are clear indications Microsoft is moving closer to android which is bad news for Windows.

Blackberry not only takes the last place because its the most difficult coding for but also because Blackberry's developers has the least of support for monetisation. Its so bad from personal experience that i wonder why it so (really poor monetisation options).

Finally, for the sake of app developers i hope 2016 gets better cause from research, 2015 is the worst year to be an app developer. IOS has it going on pretty well, Android really needs to improve or the future wont be predictable, Windows is promising but depends on Microsoft's patience in building the platform, Blackberry OS is dying and not even BlackBerry is willing to stick her head out that long anymore.
Send us your feedback in the comments, what are your experiences with being a developer or a consumer of mobile apps?
