BlackBerry Priv, the first Android phone to be made by BlackBerry is launched today in UK. Its a high end smartphone, comes with BlackBerry keyboard, and BlackBerry security and softwares.
The phone comes with a 5.4 inch curved screen like the one on Samsung S6 edge, stock Android 5.1.1 bundle with BlackBerry softwares and customizations. It also features 18 MP dual-flash camera with Schneider-Kreuznach optics, equivalent to Carl Zeiss. The Priv weighs 192g with a Qwerty keyboard and a 3410 mAH battery, quite thin-9.4mm.
BlackBerry CEO, John Chen, had promised four smartphones this 2015, and this is just the first. Blackberry is known for security and the name "Priv" stands for privacy. Blackberry promises to release monthly software updates for its Priv phone over the air (OTA). This will help keep its smartphone free of vulnerabilities before they enter public domain.
BlackBerry had described the Priv,
“PRIV has the authentic BlackBerry keyboard, legendary security, streamlined communications and productivity, combined with the wide world of Google Play store apps. It has been engineered with the world's finest technology, and
packaged in an ultra-thin, ergonomically perfect device with a keyboard hidden by SmartSlide technology.”
Finally, for those who are BlackBerry fans, and are accustomed to the BlackBerry keyboard, BlackBerry hub on Bb10, and other BlackBerry features - most of which have made their way to the Priv, this is a powerful upgrade as the best of BlackBerry is combined with the much desired softwares - which had been BlackBerry's greatest limitation in the past, by providing Google Play Store and GAPS- Google Apps.
